WASHINGTON (Reuters)-the White House said on Thursday data showing continued economic expansion was "encouraging" but a faster pace was necessary to combat unemployment.
"While the continued expansion is encouraging, faster growth is a clear need to replace the jobs lost in the downturn," White House economist Austan Goolsbee said in a statement.
Growth in gross domestic product--a measure of all goods and services produced within the borders of the U.S.--slowed to a 1.8% annual growth after a 3.1% fourth quarter pace, the Commerce Department said.
