SAN FRANCISCO/NEW YORK (Reuters)-a disorder of Amazon.com Inc. that services Internet servers host took a series of social networking websites, including Foursquare and early Quora Thursday, underlining concerns about credibility as more companies turn "cloud".
Amazon's "Elastic Compute Cloud," part of the company's online retail cloud-computing service that hosts websites for startups, latency problems experienced and other errors, according to the status of the Amazon page.
The company said that dealing with questions of capacity amid a flood of queries and information.
Amazon is now seeing significantly reduced "failures and slack and. .. continuing its recovery. Also online we have additional capacity in the area affected, "said the availability of latest update on the status page.
Foursquare, one of the best known location-based social services from which users can "check" or to broadcast their friends, said there are technical difficulties as a result of service in the Amazon.
"Our Data Centre hosting usually amazing, Amazon EC2, having few we did this morning, affected us and a number of other services that use them," read a message on the home page of the site of Foursquare on Thursday. The message said "all looking to get back to normal now."
Home page site Quora said was lower, but soon you should back up.
Is cloud computing, or hosting of Internet sites and services, such as the future of computing for consumers and companies in an increasingly mobile, connected world.
Although experts have been warning security, privacy, and reliability issues, companies--especially cash-hungry Internet startups--are increasingly looking to outsource functions such as web servers and hosting to a third party to hold down costs.
Others rely on cloud hosting services--such as storage of multimedia content--in a multitude of wireless Internet devices such as Smartphones and tablets.
Amazon did not respond to a request for comment apart from messages on the status page.
Shares of Amazon holding steady, 0.6 percent to $ 184.89 in afternoon trade.
